Terms of Service

Effective date: May 21, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of AI Chess Coach, including the browser extension, desktop application, and API at aichess.coach (collectively, the "Service"), operated by AI Chess Coach ("we", "us").

By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Description of Service

AI Chess Coach provides AI-powered move-by-move coaching for games played on Chess.com, Lichess, and similar chess platforms. The Service analyses board positions using the Stockfish engine and Claude AI (Anthropic) and delivers coaching responses in plain English.

2. Accounts

• You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
• You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. Notify us immediately at anurag.angara@gmail.com if you suspect unauthorised access.
• One account per person. You may not share your account with others.
• You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

3. Subscriptions and Billing

• Subscriptions renew automatically at the start of each billing period until cancelled.
• You may cancel at any time. Cancellation takes effect immediately; your access continues until the end of the current paid period. No refunds are issued for the unused portion of a billing period.
• You can set an optional monthly AI spend cap. When the cap is reached, AI features pause until the next billing period begins or you raise the cap in Settings.
• Payments are processed by Stripe. By subscribing you also agree to Stripe's terms.
• We reserve the right to change pricing. Price changes take effect at the start of the next billing period after 30 days' notice.
• Failed payments may result in suspension of AI features until resolved.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful, personal, non-commercial chess study. You must not:

• Automate requests to the Service or access the API with software other than the provided clients
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the Service's source code
• Attempt to circumvent subscription requirements or access controls
• Use the Service to assist cheating in rated or tournament chess games
• Use the Service in any way that could damage, disable, or impair it
• Transmit spam, malware, or unlawful content through the Service

5. Intellectual Property

• The AI Chess Coach software, branding, and design are our property or our licensors' property.
• AI coaching responses are generated for your personal use. They are not guaranteed to be accurate or free of error. You own the conversation content you submit; you do not own the AI-generated responses beyond the right to read and use them personally.
• Your chess games remain yours. We do not claim ownership of PGNs or positions you provide.
• The Stockfish chess engine is used under the GNU GPL v3.0. The chess.js library is used under the BSD-2-Clause licence.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS, OR THAT ANY CHESS ANALYSIS OR COACHING ADVICE WILL BE ACCURATE OR SUITABLE FOR ANY PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

7. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA OR PROFITS, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING UNDER THESE TERMS IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US IN THE THREE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

8. Termination

• You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time by emailing anurag.angara@gmail.com.
• We may suspend or permanently terminate your account, without prior notice, if you violate these Terms, abuse the API or rate limits, engage in fraudulent activity, or if required by law.
• Upon termination, your access to the Service ends. Your data is retained as described in our Privacy Policy and deleted upon account deletion request.

9. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your data, and is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

10. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be resolved by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in a court of competent jurisdiction for intellectual property claims.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. If you continue to use the Service more than 14 days after a change is posted, you accept the revised Terms.
